Chimère 1 (Chimera 1),
2003
A hundred and ten tulips, grown by hydroponics as in industrial horticulture,
in two incubators placed side by side. A network of tubes slowly relases
in each structure the contents of a pump dispenser placed on top of
one of the incubators. The injected solution contains the DNA of a
calf (complete genome), meat and bone meal (bovine) and mutagenic
substances extracted from human food, prepared an concentrated from
brined meat (nitrosamines).
On each incubator, a video shows pictures of calves and a loudspeaker intermittently
transmits the bass pulses of a slow-down record of Schubert’s opus 163. |
